Introducing comments and discussion threads in First Draft Pro
Trying to avoid getting bogged down by fact-checking or distracted by potential plot holes? Want to flag something to discuss with your co-writer or editor? The best writing apps enable you to make comments as you write, and revisit these later when you’re ready to do chapter revisions.
In First Draft Pro, comments work on two levels – use them to leave yourself personal notes as you write, or collaborate with others by starting a discussion thread. Let's take a closer look.
Using comments in First Draft Pro
💬 Leave yourself comments
Had a thought but don't want to interrupt your flow? Add a comment to your manuscript so that you don't forget about it.
To leave a comment, simply highlight the relevant text and select the comment icon in the toolbar bubble. Type away to your heart's content – you can come back to your comment later when you're ready to do revisions.
🧵 Start a discussion thread
If you're working on your manuscript with others, reply to any comment to create a comment thread. All comment replies will be nested below the first so that you can easily follow the discussion as it unfolds.
Clicking out on a comment thread collapses it neatly so that you can save space and minimise distraction. Plus, you can also completely hide the activity panel while you write – perfect if that discussion about the difference between a ghoul and a ghost is getting a bit too heated. Phew.
Second thoughts? Easily delete comments by hitting the trash icon.
Collaborate with comments
Make your story the best it can be. With comments and discussion threads in First Draft Pro, it's easy to refine your manuscript, whether you're working solo or writing collaboratively with co-writers and editors.
